International Girls in ICT Day takes place on the fourth Thursday in April each year and is an initiative of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) designed to “raise awareness to empowering and encouraging girls and young women to consider studies and careers in Communication and Information Technologies”. The first Girls in ICT Day took place in 2011. In 2016, over 66,000 girls and young women took part in over 1,900 celebrations of “International Girls in ICT Day” across 138 countries worldwide and this year we are celebrating it in Bangladesh. This event is a joint effort of Plan International Bangladesh, Save the Children, BRAC, Oxfam, Preneur Lab and Aamra Technology. This year we are doing campus event in 5 universities including BUET and will bring Google Bus and other simple outdoor activities to empower girls, educate them about opportunities in IT.
