The Internet is the most popular means of communication in the country with more than 100 million users. Unfortunately, the internet is full of manipulation, propaganda, disinformation, misinformation, and fake. Internet/Media literacy and social media etiquette are not properly taught in this country. This is fuelling the spread of contents which are actively and passively promoting bots, hate speech, social engineering, brainwashing, framing, emotional hijacking, conspiracy theories, phishing, and fake news. There are several notable incidents in the past where social media contents and fake news were responsible for mass violence. The growth of technology created a new era where tech knowledge became an important element for journalism, community leadership and social good. There are tools and ways to identify fake news, misinformation and disinformation. Spreading awareness of fact-checking and digital verification techniques can lessen threats and violence.

Preneur Lab and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF Bangladesh) are hosting a series of Digital Verification Workshops to equip journalists, development professionals and community leaders with tools to fact-check and to combat false news online. The workshop will cover topics like image verification, use of geo-location in fact-checking, social media audit and some more.  (video).
